We do not really know the date of construction of all the fountains but the writings and stories evoke the existence of some of them in the 16th century, they were supplied by a source discovered several centuries ago in the Saint-Raphaël district. In the 21st century, others were created as part of the development of the city center of Monteux.

Among the oldest fountains, we can mention the Dolphin Fountain which was rebuilt in 1773 in place of an old fountain built in 1560. It represented two dolphin heads, of which today there are only a few details left.

The most recent and perhaps the most impressive is the fountain located on the Human Rights Square, which it bears the same name. Inaugurated in 2012 during the renovation of the premises, it presents an octagonal basin with at the top a sculpted work by Noël Pourtal representing the peoples of the world. It is also often decorated with flowers.

There are also fountains paying tribute to the emblematic figures of the territory such as Saint-Gens or Nicolas Saboly, author of numerous Provençal folk songs.

A circuit to discover the 14 fountains in downtown Monteux is available at the Tourist Office!
