The Baroque religious building was built on the same site as the church, which had existed for a very long time, and which had been falling into ruins since the 1620s.
It was therefore on August 31, 1677 that the first stone was laid, and finally in 1684 the consecration of the Saint-Laurent church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin took place. The bell tower was only finalized in 1689. The monument, inspired by the Gesu executed by the Jesuits in Rome, had the effect of giving an impression of greatness and wealth.

On August 18, 1791, the most important event of this period took place since Bédarrides and especially the Saint-Laurent Church will host the voting ceremony for the attachment of the Comtat Venaissin to France, thus marking the end of the separation between the two kingdoms. It is an important date in the eyes of the city but also for all the inhabitants of Vaucluse.
