In the heart of the city, in the 14th century, there were the Antonine monastery. In 1325, the owners, the Antonine fathers, passed on their buildings to the town and work was undertaken to erect the church that we know today. Moreover, the oldest part of it corresponds to the former Saint Joseph Chapel, an integral part of the monastery at the time. Several chapels were also built in Monteux during these various centuries by noble families of the city.
The church has suffered several damages over the years, especially during the revolution, but will be renovated several times, in 1827 for the roof, the paving on the ground will also be changed in 1840 and then in 1920 the primitive facade will be destroyed and then rebuilt to make the monument go back from two meters.
Finally, in 2009, the church will receive the organ from the Saint Martin d'Arenc Church in Marseille thanks to the Friends of the Organ. The church, thus enriched, hosts an organ festival every year to the delight of the inhabitants.
Notre-Dame de Nazareth has been classified as a historical monument since 1992!
