The origin of its name, from the Latin "Bitturitae" meaning "the two towers," dates back to a Roman victory. Rome turned it into a villa, which was called "Villa Bittorita." It then became the property of Emperor Louis the BLIND, who gave it to Bishop REMI in 912. The archbishops of Avignon became its spiritual and temporal lords until the entire territory became French This small town, which is now so peaceful, participated in the destiny of the Comtat Venaissin: it was in fact in the church of Saint Laurent de Bédarrides that the attachment of the Comtat Venaissin to France was signed in 1791.
Bédarrides, located in a plains surrounded by two hills, is crossed by seven rivers even though it is in a really arid region ! Bédarrides is a privileged place for fishing enthusiasts, nature lovers and walkers who appreciate the freshness of the river and its rural setting.
