The rivers in the south-western basin of Mont Ventoux inherited from the medieval period the particularity of being dammed and perched, so that the Confines site is located below the level of the bed of the watercourses that border it.
A large swampy papal hunting reserve until the 19th century, this wetland became the property of the Ruggieri pyrotechnic company in 1984. Under the pressure of frequent floods, the site was sold to the town of Monteux in 1992.

Today, this site, located in the Natura 2000 zone, aims in particular to preserve biodiversity and benefit from facilities for optimal ornithological discovery.
Young and old alike will be able to admire marsh birds thanks to three observatories. In spring, frogs and toads also contribute to the site's interest.
