The bridge, dated 1589, is part of a larger irrigation system for the plain, developed during the Renaissance by monks and inhabitants seeking to control the Sorgues river network, in addition to the older system for draining this swampy area.

It crosses the Sorgue de Velleron, connecting two Chartreux properties, 'le Grand Jas' and 'le Petit Jas', now in Monteux and Althen respectively. Imposed by the archbishopric to compensate for the deepening of the river, the bridge was built of stone, which was rare for the time. The deck, the width of a cart, is supported by two arches separated by a massive pile.

It is also the starting point for pleasant nature walks along the Canal de la Patience...
