A protected city
In the Middle Ages, the city of Bédarrides was surrounded by ramparts and a wide moat until 1813.
The doors, three in number, allowed entry and exit from the village and had a drawbridge to cross the ditch. The Pousterloun Gate (or Poustarlon which refers to a small door or postern), is one of the best preserved. Equipped with a drawbridge, it was also surmounted by a tower that was demolished in 1772. The door has been redesigned several times.

The coat of arms, erased during the Revolution
It was decorated with a coat of arms bearing the arms of the archbishops of Avignon, but these arms were chiselled during the Revolution and the 'Gate of Liberty' was engraved above them.
