La Croix Couvée, formerly called “La Croix Boët”, is so called in memory of the first municipal trustee of Pernes-les-Fontaines. It is a cross, protected by a rectangular portico with 4 triangular pediments, which was built according to the aesthetic criteria in fashion of the time, i.e. in Gothic style. What makes this monument stand out is its simplicity since there is no real detail on the various columns and pediments, only scattered vine leaves are sculpted on the consoles, which evoke the vineyard that was already famous at the time.
The cross, which became the property of the Marquis of Jocas in the 18th century, was condemned during the Revolution and was therefore damaged in 1794, but only the cross was destroyed and replaced by a spade surmounted by a Phrygian cap.
Since 1961, it has been classified as a Historic Monument.
