By taking a road that connects Pernes-les-Fontaines to the village of Saint-Didier, it is one of the essential monuments that can be observed when you follow the various bike routes!
Built at the end of the 15th century, it was dedicated to Saint Roch to save the people of Perne from the plague of the Plague but was unfortunately destroyed by lightning in 1708. It was nevertheless decided to renovate it in 1713 with the appearance that we know today and was expanded in 1745 due to too much attendance, especially every August 16 for Saint-Roch's Day, there was even a fair and a market during this event.
The chapel also suffered other damage during the Revolution since the statue of the Saint was broken and then in the 1960s during which it was left abandoned and plundered. The Statue was replaced in 1856 by the one that can still be seen today and a Pernoise association decided to renovate the chapel again in 1976 to bring it back to life. It was subsequently listed as a Historic Monument in 1978.
Today, the tradition continues since Saint-Roch's Day is still celebrated in Pernes-les-Fontaines, but the fair is now replaced by a votive festival every year on Avenue du Bariot.

Book 'Pernes-les-Fontaines'
An irreplaceable summary of the history of this village in which, over the centuries, wars, rabies, plague, and enfeodations could in no way affect the beauty, the art of living and the vitality of Pernes. By putting the past into the present, this book on the city of Pernes invites us to travel. A journey through history, a time machine, it takes us through the streets, into the heart of the fountains, into the daily life of a past where centuries speak of their legend. Through the monuments and events that illustrated this small town from Comtadine, the authors have perpetuated, in their own way, the oral tradition by reviving the country chapels surrounded by the legend of their patron saints, the flour and oil mills, the flour and oil mills, the picturesque bories and the ancient hotels of the old town that proudly taunt time.
