Until the beginning of the 19th century, life in Sorgues was mainly located in the old center, then, between the years 1810-1820, the city opened up to industrialization. This is how industrial activity developed with the construction of a station and the passage of the famous P.L.M train, Paris-Lyon-Mediterranean, making it possible to transport all kinds of goods (from Ile de l'Oiselay and the surrounding area) throughout France. Sorgues is therefore developing the town to optimize this activity and is undertaking major works to widen the avenues and clear the squares. Life no longer necessarily took place in the old center, a new Town Hall was erected in 1859 on Piazza Di Lero.

The facade, in neoclassical style, is identical on both sides and has in its center a succession of three arches at the different levels of the building recalling the coat of arms of the city carved on the pediments. In 1882, at the request of the inhabitants, two clocks were installed facing north and south, due to the distance between this monument and the church from the city center, too far away to be able to hear or tell the time.
