The ancient Augustinian church

A religious building that became a cultural center

The church, built in 1867, owes its name to the Augustinian monastery, which was erected in its place centuries ago, of which, unfortunately, there is no trace left today. The place of worship was only used for a very short time since it was abandoned around 1955 and the condition of this monument gradually deteriorated for about twenty years. Since the wealth of furniture of the time was quite substantial, some of it was moved to various religious buildings in the region and other objects destroyed by the clergy.

An important building in Perne's heritage, the city decided to undertake rehabilitation work, and transformed the church into a cultural center on February 20, 1987. This building now houses an auditorium with a capacity of more than 340 seats as well as meeting and activity rooms on the ground floor. The Daniel Sorano room can accommodate 250 people seated in the main room and 98 on the balcony. On the ground floor, 6 rooms are dedicated to meetings and activities. In addition, 3 additional rooms are located in the annex of the former Louis Giraud school.
