Located in the heart of downtown Monteux, the Papiko restaurant/grocery store shares with us its recipe for Skoumpri Kapnisto (smoked mackerel), made with love to reproduce at home!

A restaurant and grocer's shop in the heart of the city of Monteux

A few steps from the Traversée des Arts and the Clementine Tower you can find Papiko, a Greek restaurant and grocery store created by Georgios and Chloé who are eager to share with you their love for Greece and its culinary specialties. Among the essentials, we can note vine leaves, moussaka, tzatziki and many others. The menu of dishes, composed of fresh and seasonal products, is renewed every week. On site you can also find typical products at the restaurant's “grocery store”.



The recipe for Skoumpri Kapnisto (smoked mackerel)

To make this dish (for 1-2 people) you will need:

  • 2 smoked mackerel fillets
  • 1 red onion
  • 20g capers
  • 1 yellow lemon
  • 1/2 yellow pepper
  • 1 bunch of dill
  • 1 teaspoon of mashed garlic


The stages of implementation

  • To start, finely chop the red onion, dill and yellow pepper.
  • Also thinly slice half of a lemon, reserve the other half to extract the juice later
  • Heat some olive oil in a pan and add the two smoked mackerel fillets, then the onions and a tablespoon of mashed garlic. Cook for a few minutes, add the capers and deglaze everything with lemon juice.
  • Take the pan off the heat and let it sit for a few minutes.
