Enjoying your stay in an eco-responsible way
Porte du Ventoux Tourisme is committed to a more responsible tourism approach, here is a list of eco-gestures to use during your stay to limit your ecological impact.
The right actions during your stay:
Whether you stay one night or several days, it is important to sort your waste. In all cities and communities, containers or columns are available to users to facilitate the recycling of cardboard, plastic or glass packaging. Thus, on the outskirts of towns or even in the city center, you will find spaces dedicated to sorting. We remind you that glass containers should be placed in a green bin, and other plastic, cardboard or even aluminum waste in a yellow bin.
Since January 1, 2024, local authorities have been setting up shared composting points, so you can also deposit organic waste and biowaste on the various sites provided for this purpose.

The first steps that are easy to adopt before and during your trip: Prefer the purchase of products in bulk, use bottles or reusable objects for everyday life, for example!
Use and management of water
There are also good things to do about the use of water: During your stay, get in the habit of shortening or limiting your time in the shower, to turn off the tap when you are not using it in order to preserve this resource, which is rare at certain times of the year, especially in Vaucluse.
Every gesture counts to save energy. In winter it is recommended to set the heating to a maximum of 19°C, and in summer to set the air conditioning to 26°C. When you leave your home, turn off all the lights and electronic devices that are on standby. Take care to close windows and doors when the heating and air conditioning are on.
The city of Pernes-les-Fontaines, which is known for its 41 fountains, is adapting and committed itself to this goal by renovating these buildings. The fountains are and will be equipped with push buttons or a closed circuit system to limit the waste of drinking water.
Many associations are committed to maintaining the rivers and waterways of our destination, such as the Les Sorgues Vertes association, which aims to preserve and promote La Sorgue, which crosses Althen-des-Paluds, Bédarrides and Sorgues. There is also the association La Nesque Propre, which works to protect the Nesque river that crosses Pernes-les-Fontaines.

Sensitive tourist sites
The ecological impact is also important when visitors travel to tourist sites and sensitive natural areas of our destination.
It is therefore important to respect the premises: When planning a hike in summer, you should always inquire about fire risks and consult the website of the Vaucluse Prefecture indicating the authorizations to access the mountains each day: https://www.risque-prevention-incendie.fr/vaucluse/index.html
On site, stay on the marked trails so as not to degrade virgin spaces or areas sheltered from the passage of man, do not carry flowers, plants or any other plant species, do not leave any waste during your visit and do not light a fire.
At the heart of the Mont Ventoux Regional Natural Park, a biosphere reserve classified by the U.N.E.S.C.O and a Natura 2000 classified site, is the sensitive natural area of Les Plâtrières in Pernes-les-Fontaines, a site that contains fragile fauna and flora forming an important ecosystem to protect and to be preserved. On site, there is a hiking circuit to discover the natural wealth of this place.
This time in Sorgues, there is another natural area to protect: the island of Oiselay. A Natura 2000 classified site, there is a hiking circuit to discover it but also several bike routes including the Via Rhôna which crosses the island to reach Avignon.

Soft mobility
Travel using soft mobility is possible! Discover Vaucluse in a different way by taking our two greenways: The Via Venaissia in Pernes-les-Fontaines which connects Orange to Velleron and the Via Rhôna to Sorgues which allows you to reach Avignon and more since it is a bike path connecting Lake Geneva in Switzerland to the Mediterranean Sea in Camargue.
Other marked bike trails will allow you to explore the department in complete serenity and to discover breathtaking cities and villages such as Venasque, or even L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
The Accueil Vélo Label, awarded to accommodations, restaurants and shops, ensures you a quality welcome and support with equipment, tools and installations at your disposal within marked structures.
There is no shortage of public transport here, two stations are located on the Porte du Ventoux territory, in Monteux and Sorgues, part of the Avignon — Carpentras TER line.
Numerous bus lines serve our municipalities such as the Avignon-Carpentras, Cavaillon-Carpentras or Avignon-Orange line.
