Cavage with the Jaumard brothers
At the gates of the Mont Ventoux Regional Natural Park, we met the Jaumard Brothers, truffle farmers and traders in Monteux to discover their truffle fields and their know-how.
Established in Monteux for 3 generations, the Jaumard family has been able to make their passion a profession and a unique know-how that they continue to develop and introduce to the most curious. Wonderfully welcomed by Alexis and Franck, we discovered the place, including the lounge in which meals and truffle tastings take place during their discovery days, a beautiful place to discover the flavors of the “black diamond” of Provence by the fire.
We also visited the workshop/shop and, as soon as we entered the premises, a scent of truffles reaches us, transports us and whets our appetite! Alexis and Franck describe to us their work and the making of their products for sale such as organic truffled olive oil, truffled butter, balsamic vinegar or even Dijon mustard with black truffle!
We then went on the hunt with Alexis and Rimbaud, one of the faithful truffle dogs! For a little over an hour, we walked through the truffle field composed of large oak fields, in search of the truffle and its mysteries, since yes, there are still gray areas on this much appreciated mushroom today.
Rimbaud was in great shape during our walk and found nearly a dozen truffles for us, at the age of 11 he did not lose his leg! During this walk, Alexis told us about his passion for this know-how, the different techniques used, the complexity of the appearance of truffles every winter on Vauclusian lands but also unfortunately the effects of climate change which disrupts the process, but we will not say more to keep you still a bit of surprise if our visit to the Jaumard Brothers makes you want to!
Every weekend from November to March, the Jaumard Brothers organize a truffle discovery day (by reservation only) including a digging walk, a visit to the workshop and a friendly meal to enjoy delicious dishes enhanced by the inimitable taste of truffles!
