Former capital of fireworks, Monteux has known up to 5 pyrotechnic factories. Movement inspired by the Aulagne family, then by Mathieu Berthier and the Ruggieri Establishments, who participated in the success of this industry until the end of the 20th century by seeing several generations of Montilian artificers pass by, sometimes at the risk of their lives.

The park of the water tower is therefore one of the places where one of the pyrotechnic factories was located; we could also find them in the Bellerive Park, in the Breynat residential park, in the Jules Fabre district, and in the sports and natural area of Les Confines. The factory, created by Mathieu Bertier, was still operating in the 1970s. In 1890, it was his decision to have the water tower built to protect his staff and his factory from the risk of fire.
After the departure of the firefighters and the purchase of all the areas formerly exploited by pyrotechnic factories as well as several years of work carried out, a village hall was built and inaugurated in 1993 and the park was baptized with the name of “Parc du Château d'Eau” in tribute to this monument and its creator.
